Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet...Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Okay, hold on a minute before you start reading this. I'm assuming that the first thing you went and read was the title, at least that's what we do in a perfect world. No, I am not writing some kind of blog to get more attention. If I wanted to do that, I might as well put up my artistic news because sex sells right? No, I was just too tired to come up with a snappy comment.
So today in my literature class we started to watch a movie with the two actors' names listed above. That's all I have to say about that. It's a film by the name of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004). We haven't gotten terribly far since the class is only an hour and twenty minutes, we're stopping constantly to take notes, and had to turn in another paper, but I'm finding it interesting.
In the story we're following this fellow Joel (Jim Carrey) and a girl named Clementine (Kate Winslet). It's certainly cool at first because these two are as different as can be. Joel is introverted and seems like a sad little puppy dog from the moment you see him try to roll out of bed, only to skip work and head down to the beach in the middle of the winter. This is where he meets a the cool but pretty crazy blue-haired Clementine. The scenes following show them hanging out on the bus, him taking her home, and then a date the next night on a frozen river. Now cut to the credits.
Joel is crying his eyes out, it's raining, and then he throws a cassette tape out the window. What in the world did she do to tear his heart out in only a black out before the credits began? This is the question of the film. I don't know much, but I'll share the little I do to show why this movie takes an even crazier turn.
Joel sees his would be girlfriend at the bookstore and she acts as if she doesn't know him. In fact, she's kissing on some new guy as she asks if she can do anything to help him. What the hey? RIGHT?
It turns out that in this reality, you can erase people from your memory and she has done just that. But why? All we know is that Joel bought her a present for Valentine's Day to apologize, but then this happens. The following scene tell us that he's now going to do the same thing. If you forget me, what is stopping me from forgetting all about you too?
Now I'm very interested to see how this all pans out. I mean, it's an interesting idea. If you could forget someone completely just by erasing the memories and getting rid of some stuff, would you? It's a tempting thought at first glance, but once you sit there and think about it for a minute, I don't think it could be done.
Sure, we've all had our fair share of ex's that we wish we had never met or hurt us so much that we didn't know what we were thinking of being with them in the first place. I've had that little disease a time or two as well don't get me wrong. Hiding old pictures and deleting numbers from your phone. It's just sad.
But I really don't think that this would be something that would actually work in the world today. When you're with someone, they seem to be in everything. You go to the park and remember getting caught there in the rain. You draw in your sketch book and see something that you did of them. All these cause the memories to come back, both the good and the bad.
But I also think that this is part of the learning process. You had bad times, but it teaches you that you don't want the next person in your life to be that way. You'll do this differently next time or maybe you don't want to  date at all anymore. Who knows? But that pain is a way to learn. It sucks, but it's called being human.
So we'll see what this film does to my opinion and if I lived in this world of sorts, could I go through with it and delete every single picture I have on Facebook for the sake of one person?
